For my son's 1st Birthday we choose a bear theme. He loves bears and one of his first words/sounds was when pointing to a bear toy or image he would say "rawr." We also took a family vacation to Yosemite this year and it just seemed like a memorable theme for the year in general.
We kept the dessert table fairly small and simple with two desserts (the birthday cake + chocolate bear paw cookies) and a favor, Teddy Bear S'mores in a small mason jar (vanilla and chocolate teddy grahams, chocolate chunks, marshmallows, and pretzel sticks). The s'mores were a big hit, I even made a second batch just for my family to snack on afterwards since they were so good. I have always wanted to try a naked cake, and everyone said it was not only beautiful but delicious too!
We don't have a lot of seating and our patio is small, so we decided a picnic setting would go great with the bear theme. It worked perfectly for us to accommodate a larger number of guests, and who doesn't love a picnic?! We made pinwheel sandwiches and included an assortment of finger foods. My husband was very proud to be able to display two vintage Coleman lanterns which he recently restored (pictured below).
Happy 1st Birthday!!!
