When we discovered a DIY for a farmhouse media console, we both knew that was next on the to do list. We have had two consoles so far: the first one was antique and smelled like gross perfume; then we graduated to an unfinished food cart. Both were less than desirable.
I'm on a mission to simplify and "stage" my house using whatever we have around the house already or with DIY budget friendly projects (this post is my inspiration). I've been working room to room and checking things off the list one at a time.
I was anxious for the console to be built for many reasons: aesthetic beauty, better storage, and primarily so we could get things off the floor and out of reach of my son. One of his favorite things was to crank the volume nob on the receiver, you can imagine how fun that was later when we went to turn on a movie. My husband was able to build this one and he and expanded upon the original tutorial to make the console sturdier. It is completely custom; he made the height of the shelves to fit my son's toy basket, something I also wanted off the floor.
We used ECOS 0 VOC WoodShield Stain in Special Walnut, which is dark in value, it turned out absolutely gorgeous! You can't tell the difference and you can't beat the peace of mind. This console is incomparable to our other ones: it is gorgeous, functional AND there is SO MUCH MORE SPACE! We love it!
